This August full moon is on 11th August 2022 and is the final Supermoon of 2022. It is most commonly known as a Sturgeon Moon.
Leo
In the Old Farmers Almanac this was the time of the year in North America when the sturgeon (the largest freshwater fish) were most easily seen and captured as a food source. In the UK, the August full moon was commonly called the Red Moon, the Green Corn Moon or the Fruit Moon as this was the time of observing the bountiful produce all around.
The full moon is when the sun and moon are on opposite sides of the earth.
As our bodies are made of 70% water and the gravity of the moon affects water – causing the tides, so too does the moon affect us. Where the dark moon is a time for us to focus on planting the seeds of new ideas or projects, the full moon is a time to celebrate and enjoy the fruits of those projects.
During this full moon, the sun is in the constellation of Leo and the moon is passing through the constellation of Aquarius.
In archetypal astrology, Leo (the lion) is a fire sign and symbolises creativity. Aquarius (the water carrier) is an air sign concerned with groups or community.
So, during this August full moon we are invited to focus on the ideas or creative projects that we began during the new moon in a way that will benefit and bring service to the communities in which we live.
Questions to ask ourselves:
- How can I be of service to my community?
- How can my creativity be a positive influence on those around me?
But how does this full moon energy fit in with the August message of rest and recuperation?
When we are at rest and in the present moment (rather than our thoughts looking to the future), we are best placed to receive inspiration. This allows us the space to let our creative ideas flow.
