May’s guidance is to embrace a dramatic new beginning.
It’s time for the old order to change, and a new way of seeing life to begin.
It’s time to learn to walk in our personal power.
May is a special month! There will be two full moons (one at the beginning and one at the end of the month), and we will also celebrate a fire festival to mark the change in the seasons.
Astrologically, May’s first full moon, called the Flower Moon, occurs on Friday, 1st May. The name comes from the abundance of flowers all around us (in the Northern Hemisphere).
The second full moon will occur on Sunday, 31st May, and this is called a Blue Moon – hence the saying “Once in a blue moon”. The moon won’t turn blue; it just means that it is a rare occurrence to have two full moons in one calendar month.

The Old Order Changes
It’s time to reclaim our personal power.
Personal power is like a sword.
It is a tool that can be used in various ways:
- It can be sheathed, which means we can choose not to use our power. The problem with this is that then we become the victim, and we can feel that our circumstances are against us.
- It can be wielded uncontrollably. The problem with this is that we only focus on our ego, what we want, how we expect life to unfold according to our ideas and beliefs. This is very egotistical and damaging to us and those around us.
We are seeing this played out extremely well by some world leaders. They talk peace but bring chaos, war and suffering to thousands of people across the world.
- It can be wielded with great courage and skill – wisdom and clarity. This takes patience and practice.
While we may not be political leaders on a global stage, we are the king or queen of our own lives; it behoves us to learn to wield our own power with wisdom.
Sometimes, when there are sweeping changes (which May will bring), life may feel disruptive.
However, it is important to remember that Spirit has a plan and that if we allow ourselves to learn to flow with Divine guidance and see every situation as an opportunity to learn something about ourselves, then positive change will occur.
We may want to see change in the world, but the only way to make a difference is to change ourselves – our beliefs and the way we act or react to life.
Three tips for learning to embrace your personal power.
- Accept that sometimes life is unsatisfactory. “That’s life”, as Frank Sinatra used to sing. Buddhists call this Samsara. You can’t control other people; the only person you can control is yourself. There are going to be ups and downs, ebbs and flows, storms and times of quiet.

Thich Nhat Hanh
- Breathe in patience. Breathe out patience. This is an opportunity. The challenging person or situation has emerged as your teacher. Breathe in slowly, and breathe out slowly – and if you can, silently thank them for giving you this opportunity to learn something about yourself. Thich Nhat Hanh said, ‘Breathing in, I know that anxiety is in me. Breathing out, I smile to my anxiety.’
- Note that frustration, rage, anger, anxiety, worry or fear can often feel like a protector, but this is not a helpful protector. The result is stress! Stress causes the release of cortisol, which changes blood pressure, digestion and our immune response. It also means that the body stores these negative emotions in the muscles, organs, glands and cells. These emotions eventually cause dis-ease.
Thich Nhat Hanh also wrote that, “Letting go gives us freedom, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If, in our heart, we still cling to anything — anger, anxiety, or possessions — we cannot be free,”
So, becoming skilful in wielding personal power with grace and wisdom means becoming aware of what we are feeling and thinking, accepting the situation as our ‘teacher’, breathing, and letting go of what does not serve us in the heat of the moment.
Clarity
Then we become masters at wielding our personal power with clarity, wisdom and freedom.
With bright blessings and profound peace,
