December New Moon – Inner Freedom
The new moon is on 1st December 2024, and we are in the constellation of Sagittarius the Archer.
The archetype of Sagittarius energy is passion, enthusiasm, adventure and being open to change.

Sagittarius is a fire sign and fire symbolises our creativity, passion, and tapping into what we love.
Jupiter, the planet of intellectual expansion, rules Sagittarius.
We are being invited on a quest for inner freedom.
What does inner freedom look, sound and feel like to you?
The definitions of freedom include:
- The power to act, speak and think as one wants.
- The state of not being imprisoned or enslaved.
- A lack of reserve or inhibition.
- Naturalness and openness.
As the world writhes in what feels like chaos, greed, hatred and fear, how can we find inner freedom?
The Tao Te Ching suggests that we find freedom by changing ourselves, rather than waiting for external circumstances to alter. Chapter 59 states
“For governing a country well, there is nothing better than moderation.
The mark of a moderate man is freedom from his own ideas.
Tolerant like the sky, all-pervading like sunlight,
Firm like a mountain, supple like a tree in the wind,
He has no destination in view and makes use of anything life happens to bring his way.
Nothing is impossible for him, Because he has let go,
He can care for the people’s welfare as a mother cares for her child.”
What does this mean?
Firstly, moderation is the key, which means tolerance and acceptance of others, rather than rigidly clinging to the idea of ‘I’m right, you’re wrong. I’m good, you’re evil’.
This is what is meant by ‘freedom from his own ideas’.
Sagittarius energy encourages us to be mentally and intellectually flexible and open to change.
We will not always be right, so we should be open to others’ points of view. We have much to learn from others – especially those we may disagree with.
When we have no ‘destination’ in mind to persuade others to follow or agree with our ideas, then we become open like the sky, and supple like a tree in the wind.
Freedom means letting go of our own rigid beliefs of right and wrong and expanding into the unknown. In this way we allow love to become like an inner river that flows through us and blesses those around us.
I wish us all the flexibility and inner freedom of tolerance and expansion at this time.
