November Full Moon – Sensuality

The full moon in November is on Friday 15th November 2024 and is called the Beaver Moon.

It is called the Beaver Moon because this was when the Native Americans trapped beavers for their warm winter fur.

In nature, here in the Northern Hemisphere:

  • Beavers build dams and prepare their lodges before the waters turn to ice.
  • Deer rut (mate).
  • Bears dig out their winter dens in readiness for hibernation.
  • Fish spawn.
  • The frosts begin.

It is also the final Super Moon of the year.

A Super  Moon is when the Moon is at its closest point to the Earth and will therefore appear about 8% larger than normal and up to 16% brighter.

The Moon highlights the subconscious and what Jung referred to as the inner child, and Super Moons intensify the energy!

Astrologically, the sun is in the watery sign of Scorpio (the Scorpion) while the Moon is in the Earth sign of Taurus (the Bull).

Scorpio energy taps into our intuition and inner transformation, while the calm sensuality of the Bull grounds us and helps us to feel, touch, and deeply connect with the world around us.

What does this Full Moon ask us to consider?

During the November New Moon, we were encouraged to become more aware of ourselves and every moment.

Have you noticed how intense the energy has been?

Life has been unsettling!

Now, Taurus rises to remind us to balance this energy with calm groundedness, and to stop and become aware of the sensual beauty of life all around us.

According to Psychology Today, sensuality is defined as ‘the ability to completely enjoy all of our senses including smell, touch, taste, sight, and hearing.

Sensuality is not always connected to another person—we can be sensual by ourselves and also with others.’

We are sensual beings, and this is a sacred and beautiful part of being human. Sensuality nurtures the self and therefore nurtures the soul.

Sensual acts could be:

  • Taking a long, bubble bath
  • Cuddling up in a blanket by a fire
  • Listening to the ocean waves
  • Basking in the sun
  • Enjoying a delicious meal
  • Reading
  • Dancing
  • Playing or listening to music
  • Kissing, hugging, and lovemaking

The church denigrated sensuality (and sex) to be dirty and the body to be disgusting. This separated us from a part of ourselves and made us feel shame when we enjoyed something sensual.

“Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God’s handwriting.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Now is the time to fully rediscover and embrace this part of us. Sensuality was designed to be a tool of self-awareness and ultimately, self-empowerment.

To step into our sensuality, we need to pay attention to everything we see, feel, taste, hear, and touch – and appreciate it.

Journal Question:

How can I express my sensuality in a new way?

“…And the human race is filled with passion.

And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life.

But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for”. – John Keating, Dead Poet’s Society
