On Thursday, 24th July, we will experience the New Moon in Leo (the Lion).
Leo is a fire sign, filled with passion, confidence, and determination.
What does this mean for us at the time of the New Moon?
The Lion is the king of the jungle. This is due to its wonderful mane, majestic build, and status as a top predator, (despite not actually living in jungles). Historically, lions were associated with royalty, power, and leadership.
Being a leader means being generous of spirit. It means being warm-hearted towards oneself and others.
What are the shadow aspects of being a leader?
- attention seeking (needing to be the centre of attention).
- arrogant and domineering (‘it’s my way or the highway’).
- stubborn and inflexible (not listening to or considering others’ opinions)
- lazy (letting others do all the hard work)
We don’t want to exhibit any of these behaviours!
Therefore, the only way to become the king or queen of our personal lives (our jungle) and exhibit the positive traits of Leo is to look at the shadow and learn to become curious when these behaviours show up.
So what behaviours and traits DO we want to exhibit?
- open-mindedness
- loyalty
- cheerfulness
- generosity (be it time, attention or money)
- self confidence
- hardworking
Being a leader doesn’t necessarily mean being the head of a large corporation.
Rather, a true leader empowers others to discover and become their best selves. The ability to do this relies on a feminine rather than a masculine energy.
How do we become great leaders?
- We value ourselves.
We realise that we have talents and gifts that the world needs.
Without us, the universe is incomplete, so it is up to us to uncover who we are and shine like the brightest stars that we truly are.
And when we feel doubt, we take courage and act anyway, because action dissolves doubt.
2. We listen to others with compassion and without judgment, and we take the time to really understand their difficulties and struggles without imposing our beliefs and ideas.
3. If we have the resources, we offer these generously to help someone succeed; be it time, energy or sometimes, money.
4. Finally, we stop worrying about what others will think of us and how they may judge us.
Rather, we choose to trust and follow our own intuition.
This is what Simon Sinek had to say about leadership.
I wish you the courage to be bold and fearless like the lion that you are.
