This morning I asked for a Tarot message that would show us what we need to focus on for the month of March.
The result was the Eight of Cups.
Eight of Cups
Looking at Juliet Sharman-Burke’s deck, we see a person in a dark blue cloak, as he/she climbs up a hill past a waterfall under a waning moon. They walk through an arch of 8 golden cups.
They have their back to us and walk through a rocky landscape towards and up to the top of the mountain.
It looks as though the cups that they have been collecting are no longer of value and so are being left behind for something new.
The suit of cups represents our emotions and feelings and the number 8 in Tarot symbolises regeneration (or death and rebirth).
So, what is the message for us to follow during the month of March?
Last month (February 2023) we were encouraged to work hard, show due diligence, set firm foundations, and persevere.
The Page of Pentacles signalled a new beginning of something financial or of material concern.
But now we are being challenged to look beyond just the physical concerns of money and financial security and to aspire to choose inner happiness over and above day to day concerns.
It can be so easy to get caught up in, become blinkered and worry about money; the car, the house, the holiday and even how to finance the new project or idea.
However, we should also be able to step back and realise that we are here on Earth for a higher purpose.
Rodin’s
The Thinker
- What is our higher purpose?
- Why are we here on Earth?
- What’s it all for?
- What’s the point of it all?
This card is one of transition – of transformation – where perhaps a part of us must die so that we can be renewed and transformed.
We may even need to leave a toxic or negative situation or environment. If we stay, it will only lead to stagnation and keeping us small and tired of life.
Questions to ask and journal:
- What is holding me back from being the best version of myself?
- Why am I here?
- What are my shadows – parts of me that I unconsciously reject?
- When I am triggered by someone or something that upsets me, how do I react (anger, fear, rage, frustration, fear, denial, avoidance, wanting to run away, attack)?
As we are in the watery, mystical energy of Pisces, this Tarot card and message fits perfectly into the energy of March.
It’s time to look at our shadows.
According to Jung, these are the unconscious parts of our character or personality that do not align with the ideal version of ourselves that we’re aiming for.
It’s not easy to see our shadows and even harder to admit that they are indeed parts of us; but if we’re willing, then unconditional love (the angels and guides) can step in and help us to let go of those beliefs that no longer serve us.
We don’t need to stay as a caterpillar – freedom and flight of soul of the butterfly are waiting for us if we’re willing.
We just need to set our intention and open ourselves to unconditional love and let the light shine into the dark corners of our minds and chase away the shadows.
