What do we need to focus on for the month of August?
The answer is The Ten of Swords reversed (upside down).
Let’s look at the card a little closer …
Ten of Swords
When we look at the card from Juliet Sharman-Burke’s deck, we see a a man lying face down on the ground with 10 swords sticking into his back. The sky is dark but near the body, a butterfly hovers.
The suit of Swords refers to the element of air. Air symbolises the mind – our rational thoughts and the ability to judge and evaluate a situation or event.
The number 10 in tarot refers to completion. The 10 is the last numbered card of each suit.

Because the card is reversed, it looks as though gravity is causing the swords to fall out of the body.
In the background, the sun is rising once again.
This is therefore a card of hope. A tough situation that has caused us mental pain and heartache is coming to an end.
This is a time for recovery and healing after difficult life circumstances, where we may have felt unable to cope.
The storm has passed, the worst is over and it’s time to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and learn from the past.
Remember that we are never the victim (altough it’s easier to blame another for where we find ourselves). Rather the events and people that we encounter are meant to be learning experiences… so what can we learn from the challenging situation?
Questions to Journal:
- What have I been struggling with mentally?
- What lessons can I learn from difficult circumstances?
The good news is that it is time to be like the butterfly and emerge from the cocoon, a little wiser than before.
Wishing us all peace and hope.
