The final full moon of the year is on Wednesday 27th December 2023. It is called the Cold Moon, and the name comes from the icy conditions in the Northern Hemisphere.
Cold Moon
The December full moon is also called the ‘Long Night Moon’ as it is the full moon closest to the Winter Solstice (the longest night of the year)
Astrologically, the sun is in the earth sign of Capricorn (the Goat), while the moon is in the watery sign of Cancer (the Crab). The archetype of Capricorn is achieving worldly success through hard work, while Cancer is the energy of independence balanced by great compassion.

What does this Full Moon ask us to consider?
During the New Moon, the fiery, enthusiastic energy of Sagittarius encouraged us to search for and discover higher wisdom and guidance.
Now we are being asked to prepare, to be sure-footed and steady – like the mountain goat – as we organise and make plans for the new year.
However, this should be balanced by nurturing ourselves and building inner security so that at the right time, we will be able to spring to the lofty heights of the mountain tops.
It is time to intuitively let go of what no longer serves our higher purpose. It ia time to release the inflexibility of the old ways, with gentleness and compassion.
Beating ourselves up doesn’t work, we need to acknowledge our inflexibilities and limitations with self-kindness.
We can thank those parts of ourselves as they were only trying to protect us, and then let them go.
We can’t climb mountains if we’re laden with excess baggage.
Dear Me…
Journal inspiration:
On the day of the full moon, write a letter to yourself, thanking those parts of you that tried to protect you when you felt vulnerable.
Then tell those parts of you that they are no longer needed, and they can stop working so hard.
Explain that it’s time to let go of these attachments or baggage.
Wish those parts well and tell them that they can rest because you are safe now and… ‘you’ve got this!’
Wishing you inner balance as always as we head into 2024 together.
