September New Moon (Virgo) – Loving Ourselves
The new moon is on Tuesday 3rd September 2024 and we are in the earth sign of Virgo (the Maiden).
The archetype of the maiden, connects to the Greek myth of Persephone.

This is the story of a young woman called Persephone who was kidnapped by Hades, god of the Underworld, and made to be his queen. Her mother, the goddess Demeter (goddess of the harvest and fertility), was distraught and wandered the Earth searching for Persephone.
She eventually agreed to make a bargain with Hades. For the six months of the year that Persephone lived with Hades as Queen of the Underworld, Demeter would mourn the loss of her daughter.
The Earth would grow cold, and Autumn and Winter would visit the Earth.
However, for the six months that Persephone visited her mother on Mount Olympus, Demeter would shine with joy and the land would become fertile again, bringing Spring and Summer to the Earth.
How does this story relate to us?
During the harvest, farmers gather in the crops and separate the chaff from the wheat.
When we look at ourselves honestly, we should celebrate our successes but be grateful for our challenges, as these are opportunities for us to heal.

September message
The message for September encouraged us that if we wish to make progress, overcome obstacles, and be free from suffering, we need to be humble, accept help from others, and be keen to learn something new.
Now is the time to look at life differently.
Now is not the time to be afraid of our ‘underworld’ or shadow.
Our shadows are the parts of us that we have rejected and ignored… the parts of us we don’t particularly like.
As Dr. Peebles (channelled by Summer Bacon) says, ‘You are a student of the Divine’. We have an opportunity to discover and dissolve the illusions of separation between us and the Divine.
Love is all around us and is indeed within us; we only need to uncover it and discover that we are made of love.
We can learn to acknowledge our shadows and embrace those neglected parts of ourselves.
They are crying out to be loved, accepted, and embraced by us.
Journal questions:
- What shadow aspects of me are asking for love?
- How can I be more compassionate towards myself?
- What can I try that is a new solution to an old problem?
I wish us all the courage and compassion to face our shadows and learn to love and accept ourselves a little bit more.
